Symbols used in Witchcraft

Symbols used in Witchcraft depend on the type of witchcraft,  and there are many – from witch doctors in Africa, Voodoo, western Wicca, Sangomas in South Africa, herbalists in South Africa, depending on the type of spell – whether it is a love spell, a money spell – or a spell to stop bullets – the practitioner will use different items and symbols in practising the particular craft. Witch doctors in Africa use element from the bush – animal parts, bones, stones and all manner of things – they will throw them like one throws the runes. Witches symbols from Europe use items like pentacles and wands.

Black wizards who practice the dark arts will not divulge what kind of symbols they use – Evil witchdoctors in Africa have been known to use body parts of young boys and girls – this is something no normal person would condone – but many who seek powerful spells make use of these witchdoctors. Sangomas in South Africa who practice the true form of Ancestor worship would never use such practices, relying on the wisdom of good. Herbalists in South Africa will of course use natural substances like herbs and plants. Many Symbols used in witchcraft are secrets -each form of the occult protecting their ancient knowledge. Some practitioners make use of Adinkra symbols like the Sankofa – which is a very powerful symbol,

Symbols of Hope

January 16th, 2011

Symbols of hope are quite rare – maybe this is because we are a species do have not too much hope?

I have trawled the net looking at this subject but have yet to find definitive symbols of hope. There are plenty of symbols for good luck, symbols of courage, symbols of protection and others.

The most obvious symbol of hope is the dove – and quite a few sites list this symbol – but the dove is actually a symbols of peace.

Many sites make it up as they go along. They try and re brand ancient symbols. This doesn’t sit too well with me! I found a Chinese symbol of hope called xiwàng. This is more of a Chinese character – means expect, hope and wish. I don’t really think it is a symbols as we in the west expect it to be….more like an idogram.

African Symbol of hope

Biribi wo soro - Hope

Africa has a symbol – it comes from the Adinkra – it means – “God there is something in the heavens, let it reach me” – pretty cool huh!

The Adinkra have a lot of great symbols – must be the largest number of symbols from any African Country. They were used on their original fabrics. These were the only symbols of hope I could find – African symbols of hope are rare. For more African Symbols see African Mask Jewelry. The tokaloshe on the other hand is probably the opposite – to a symbol of hope – representing an evil spirit in African culture
