Symbols of Hope
Symbols of hope are quite rare – maybe this is because we are a species do have not too much hope?
I have trawled the net looking at this subject but have yet to find definitive symbols of hope. There are plenty of symbols for good luck, symbols of courage, symbols of protection and others.
The most obvious symbol of hope is the dove – and quite a few sites list this symbol – but the dove is actually a symbols of peace.
Many sites make it up as they go along. They try and re brand ancient symbols. This doesn’t sit too well with me! I found a Chinese symbol of hope called xiwàng. This is more of a Chinese character – means expect, hope and wish. I don’t really think it is a symbols as we in the west expect it to be….more like an idogram.
Africa has a symbol – it comes from the Adinkra – it means – “God there is something in the heavens, let it reach me” – pretty cool huh!
The Adinkra have a lot of great symbols – must be the largest number of symbols from any African Country. They were used on their original fabrics. These were the only symbols of hope I could find – African symbols of hope are rare. For more African Symbols see African Mask Jewelry. The tokaloshe on the other hand is probably the opposite – to a symbol of hope – representing an evil spirit in African culture
